Algarve, the beautiful seaside region in the south of Portugal, has won the prestigious Europe’s Leading Beach Destination 2012 award. It’s definitely not a surprise since the Algarve has been one of my favorite regions in the world for many years. I’m lucky in that I get to travel to the Algarve at least once a month and take advantage of all the great things the region has to offer.
Here are some of my favorite:
It doesn’t get any fresher. Fresh grilled fish is delicious and available everywhere.
Crossing the Ria Formosa by boat is a great opportunity to see amazing sea & bird species and incredible nature views.
Clams in olive oil & garlic, then sprinkled with lemon juice & cilantro. A great summer treat. Specially delicious with a crispy Vinho Verde.
The Algarve has nearly 200 km of sea coast with some of the most beautiful, clean, safe and easily accessible beaches in Europe.
The Algarve is home to some of the most exciting fish markets you can find. Selecting fish in the Algarve is a real pleasure of mine.
Algarve’s great views are everywhere. Plenty of rocky beaches contrasting with broad gorgeous expanses of sand.
Watching the sunset in the Summer is one of the finest moments you can have in the Algarve. I love it.
Also took some photos at Algarve this year. http://www.goncalorodrigues.com/blog/algarve-is-precious/
